New York politician William Sulzer (1863-1941) served as a United States Representative from New York (1895-1912). During 1912 Sulzer chaired the United States House Committee on Foreign Affairs. In January, 1913 Sulzer was elected governor of New York State. One of the most famous incidents of anti-Catholic sentiment expression occurred August 11, 1834; non-Catholic rioters looted and burned the Ursuline Convent of Mount Benedict in Charlestown, MA.
